Background: We bought our current house in 2009. Our offer was approved in July, which meant if things ran smoothly we would be moving in (and out of my in laws house) just before the baby (Elizabeth) was born. Not so! We moved in the day before Thanksgiving. It ended up being just great that way- we had saved more money, and I had tons of help with Zachary while taking care of a newborn, which was perfect.
It's a 4 bedroom home, built in 2000 and other than the lack of a backyard, we love it! We planned on staying in it another 5 years at least.
At the end of February, a real estate agent in our ward emailed me one morning to tell me about an amazing short sale for a house in our ward boundaries, wondering if I knew of anyone in the stake who would be interested in it. I emailed back that I would try to think of someone.
We emailed her back about a half hour later saying we were interested in taking a look. We loved it, and it was a whirlwind after that!
My parents and I spent Saturday, Monday and Tuesday cleaning like crazy and packing things up. Wednesday Sue listed it, and we hoped we would have about a week on the market. Within the week we had an offer over asking price, yay! But then we were worried that because the Pleasanton house hadn't gotten approved, it might not go through. Since we didn't want to end up with no house, we told the people we had to have a contingency for us that we could back out of selling it if we couldn't buy the other house. That has scared everyone off, so we have now had a month of being on the market with people wanting to make offers, but being scared off by the contingency.
Yesterday we finally got the great news that we are approved! We get to buy the Pleasanton house! Phew. So now we are hoping those interested buyers give us a good offer after this weekend and we can get moving!
John is in the middle of busy season, so working crazy hours and all day Saturdays, and I'm about to hit the 20 week mark for this baby. We figured this would already be a crazy time of year, add daily showings of our house on top of it and it ended up being way crazier than we thought! We are so excited it is all working out and it's definitely worth it if this all goes through.
